Reporting stats on Data Integration?

I have begun to use PDI (Kettle) reasonably well, with well organised jobs and transformations.

However, I'd like to report back to the log "Number of files deleted" or "Number of rows added" to the log.
How can I best do this?

Or perhaps there's a better way of feeding back in business terms how the job went to the user?
