auto-size a band to match the width of visible columns?

I am designing a table in PRD that will have user-selectable columns, and thus the overall width of the table is variable. However, the "band" in which the fields are contained is a fixed width. So if several columns are hidden, there is a lot of white space to the right of the table that is still considered part of the report. This looks awkward when scrolling in HTML view, and it also looks very bad when printing PDFs.

Is it possible to configure a "band" so that it conforms to the width visible columns?
