How to modify report's layout dynamically?

Is it possible to modify layout.xml (file within *prpt) dynamically - depending on user’s selection - within Report Designer (by ECMA or Groovy script for example or by any other way)?
If yes, could you detail the procedure (or provide an example) of it, please.
