Automate Text file input definition

Often I am given a file defining a record layout. For example, a spreadsheet containing the field names, data types, sizes, positions, etc. I am wondering if there is a way to import these definitions directly into a text file input step - instead of manually entering them.

My goal is to automate this part of my set-up if possible.
