CDF Date Input Component

It's been pointed out to me that the date input component does not update in our dashboards if the date displayed is edited directly in the text box. It will only update if the date is selected from the calendar that appears. Is there some code I could add to the post change or post execution that would make it accept the date that is typed into the field?
