help on reporting requirement

I'm new to Pentaho. We have a data warehouse which we want to extract the data out for reporting purpose. The data on the data warehouse is de-normalized data stored in as flat tables.

What we want to do is to extract ad hoc report on demand or recurring (if recurring, it has to be automated, say monthly). Is pentaho the right tool to accomplish this task? Any other suggestion?

At this point, we're not interested in anything beyond the requirements above but don't mind to keep the option open.

Thanks.

BI Server 5 Adminstration Users

I have been using Hibernate to manage users and roles in an earlier version of the BI Server. I am looking to upgrade to the 5.0 version CE server and have (finally) managed to configure the BI Server to use the hibernate user and authorities tables.

I can now login into the BI Server using the users and passwords supplied.

However I have noticed when accessing the Administration section, the Users and Roles listed are still displaying the CE default entries. These entries do not allow login so I know my BI Server is using Hibernate Db now.

How do I get the Adminstration of Users and Roles to point to the Hibernate database?

Hi

My code loops through 7 classifiers (j=0 thru j=6)
**************************************
fcs.buildClassifier(training);
if (initialize = true); {
weka.core.SerializationHelper.write("C:/Users/Stan/Weka/Model" + (j+1), fcs);
}

Error code:-
********************
java.io.FileMotFoundException: C:\Users\Stan\Weka\Model1 (Access is denied)

I have tried two different paths, I am the only one who users the computer and I should have access to anywhere?

I would appreciate help from Windows users :)

Edges are cut when printing from Swing Preview!?

Hello,
when I open my A6 report (297x420px) via a Java Application, the Swing Preview appears correctly. But now I'm not able to print without getting cut edges. Is this a printer problem or can sombody suggest any settings I may have missed?
When exporting as PDF printing works fine.. (but actually with displaced text fields - therefore see seperate thread)

THANKS!

Scheduling MDX query using xaction on Pentaho BI server CE 5.0.1

I want to schedule a MDX query using xaction on Pentaho BI server CE 5.0.1. I am using Pentaho Design Studio to create the xaction file but it asks for the schema file and I am unable to find the schema XML that I published using Schema workbench on the Pentaho BI server. Can someone please mention the steps that I need to follow to generate the xaction. If there is some other way to schedule a MDX query on BI server then that will also be helpful.

Thanks,
Chirag

Hello,
when I do a PDF export from my Swing Preview (opened via a Java Application), all text fields are displaced for some pixels (to the bottom). It's not a lot, but even so annoying when the report was layouted exactly.
thanks!!!

Need help on Intial Start up Process for Community Contribution

Hello Community Members,

We would like to contribute to the Pentaho community for which we require certain clarifications on below:

  1. Do we need to create seperate accounts for Forums and JIRA (to start our contributions) or we can use one common account for use on both mediums?
  2. How do we need to proceed to do corporate contribution? As in, Do we need to create a Corporate account which can be used for all corporate contributions?

Quick help on these queries is appreciated.

Thanks,
Hiral M.

Embedding dashboard in web application using get content and headers

Hi,

I tried following this tutorial and use curl first then I tried including it in a php file. When I tried to check it from the browser it only shows the text I created but not the dashboard. I already tried using an iframe as an alternative but i think its slow and shows 'error processing query' in few seconds after it shows the dashboard so I decided to try this method.

curl 'http://localhost:8080/pentaho/content/pentaho-cdf-dd/GetHeaders?solution=cde&path=&file=sample.wcdf&userid=joe&password=password'

GridSearch with libSVM in WEKA

$

I am quite new to using WEKA and I am hoping someone can possibly help me or point out where I am going wrong with using GridSearch in WEKA to find the best libSVM cost and gamma parameters for my training dataset.

When I set up the following GridSearch with 5-fold cross-validation:
weka.classifiers.meta.GridSearch -E ACC -y-property classifier.gamma -y-min -5.0 -y-max 2.0 -y-step 1.0 -y-base 10.0 -y-expression pow(BASE,I) -filter weka.filters.AllFilter -x-property classifier.cost -x-min 1.0 -x-max 10.0 -x-step 1.0 -x-base 10.0 -x-expression I -sample-size 100.0 -traversal COLUMN-WISE -log-file "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Weka-3-7" -num-slots 1 -S 1 -W weka.classifiers.functions.LibSVM -- -S 1 -K 2 -D 3 -G 0.0 -R 0.0 -N 0.5 -M 40.0 -C 1.0 -E 0.001 -P 0.1 -model "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Weka-3-7" -seed 1
this gives the result:
Evaluation: Accuracy
Coordinates: [10.0, 1.0]
Values: 10.0 (X coordinate), 10.0 (Y coordinate)
which I take as meaning that the optimal cost and gamma values for this dataset with libSVM are both 10. This gives an accuracy of ~75%.
However, when I use these values in libSVM with the same setup and dataset but without GridSearch the accuracy drops down to ~65%.
If, for example, I select cost and gamma values myself of 1 and 0.01 respectively, I can achieve an accuracy of 73% - which although lower than GridSearch, it is much higher than what I get using the "optimal parameters".

So why do the GridSearch parameters not give the same accuracy when used with libSVM? Where have I went wrong?
(Also, if I have specified gamma (Y-coord) to search between -5 and 2, why does it give me a value of 10?)

Any help with understanding this so I can get my optimal parameters would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Exception while executing analyzer report - TNS: Bad packet

I am using Pentaho Enterprise edition - evaluation version 5.0.2.1. I have formed an analyses datasource on top of Oracle DB 11g R2 and am using ojdbc6.jar for connectivity between biserver and oracle. This connection works fine as I have run through some interactive and basic reports from bi server to this oracle DB.

However this new analysis source which I have created does not work fine and it gives random error as below. The reason am calling it as random error is, when i select a dimension and a measure it works fine and gives result. When I gets on to add another dimension, it gives the error as shown below. I thought the problem could be with the dimension which am trying to do analytics, however it is not the case, because the one which worked does not work if i close and re-open the window and do the same steps again. Network connectivity is proper while carrying out the test case. Error log is pasted below in bold text, please provide assistance

Performance issues with Pentaho 5.0 + Mysql. Is vertica good option?

Hi,

We are using:

Pentaho (CE) 5.0. Server RAM: 30 GB. Server Core: 24
Mysql 5.1. with RAM 33 GB.

This has just one star schema which has a fact table with 10M rows. Analysis on single dimension runs into ~30 sec and I increases rapidly as we run into 2-3 cross join of dimensions. We figured that problem is with Mysql temp table creation which takes forever to return results.

So we are thinking of trying out Vertica (CE).
In pentaho 5.0 (CE) user console, I see options to connect to various DBs(mysql, oracle etc) but vertica is not in that list.
1. How can I make Pentaho connect to star schema created in Vertica?
2. Does Pentaho know to create Vertica-compatible queries?

Thanks.

Hey
I am new to Pentaho DI. I created an ETL with some transformation and a .KTR file is created and it is running fine.
When I go to Report Design and select the data source as Pentaho Data integration and then when I select the .KTR file which I created.
When I go for a preview of data It is giving me an error that "Caught Kettle Exception: Check your configuration".
I have no idea what to do.

Please help me!!!!!!!!!

Different actions if a value already exist in my database

Hi!

I have one table let's say (id, name, price).

I want to check if a particular id (let say 988) is already present in my table or not

If it is a must do action_1, but if it isn't I must do action_2

Ok, I try to use "DBLookup" step, but it can't check if my value is in my table (trace empty)

Any ideas?

Using Execute XAction Component with JCR repository

I've been trying to use the Execute XAction Component in my CDE dashboard.
Here are the parameters that I am stumped on:

Solution
Path
Action

My xaction file is located in the same folder as my CDE dashboard.
The location is home/demo/cs_insert.xaction (that's the home folder of a user called 'demo').
What should be in those parameters?

NOTE: The xaction works when I run it as standalone

Cross validation and Filtered Classifier

Hi,

I was trying to get the output from each fold in cross validation, and I managed to get something like this:
inst# actual predicted error prediction
1 4:INTEGRAT 3:EXPLORAT + 1
2 4:INTEGRAT 3:EXPLORAT 1
3 4:INTEGRAT 3:EXPLORAT 1
4 4:INTEGRAT 3:EXPLORAT 1
5 4:INTEGRAT 3:EXPLORAT + 1
6 4:INTEGRAT 3:EXPLORAT 1
7 4:INTEGRAT 3:EXPLORAT 1
8 4:INTEGRAT 3:EXPLORAT + 1
9 4:INTEGRAT 3:EXPLORAT 1

but, I need an instance id as well.

Not sure why, but I tried to add additional feature to my training set, instance ID, and using FilteredClassifier to remove it before evaluation part.

Code:

FilteredClassifier fcls = new FilteredClassifier();
weka.filters.unsupervised.attribute.Remove remove = new weka.filters.unsupervised.attribute.Remove();
remove.setAttributeIndices("1");

LibLINEAR cls = new LibLINEAR();
cls.setSVMType(new SelectedTag(LibLINEAR.SVMTYPE_L2LOSS_SVM_DUAL, LibLINEAR.TAGS_SVMTYPE));
cls.setDebug(false);

fcls.setClassifier(cls);
fcls.setFilter(remove);

classifier = cls;

and this is for evaluation:
Code:

StringBuffer forPredictionsPrinting = new StringBuffer();
AbstractOutput ao = new PlainText();
ao.setBuffer(forPredictionsPrinting);
eval.crossValidateModel(cls, data, 10, new Random(1), ao, new Range("first,last"), true);

But, still I'm not able to read an instance id.
I saw an example here: http://bayesianconspiracy.blogspot.c...t-weka_10.html
and for some reason I can't see this ID column.

Hi,

I have a master report with a pageofpages function in its page footer. If I add an inline subreport, the page is displayed but if the subreport is banded, nothing is displayed.
What could be the problem?

Thanks!

Uploading a Mondrian file to the BA Server using REST API

Hey Everyone,

I have never used any sort of REST API before, but would like to use the Pentaho Rest API to upload Mondrian xml files to the server. According to http://anonymousbi.wordpress.com/201...-web-services/ and several other sites I can accomplish this by using the following request.

http://localhost:8080/pentaho/plugin...n/postAnalysis
Multipart POST request with post params:
uploadAnalysis – Mondrian schema
catalogName – name of the catalog (optional?)
parameters – parameter list

However, for someone like me who is new to this, this is not quite enough for me to start using this. How exactly would I go about running this, what would the url be to put a local file up onto the server? Any help would be appreciated
