Audit log for dashboards?

Hi all,

We've been looking into taking advantage of the audit logs to monitor the usage of our reports and CDE-based dashboards. We're using the Community Edition, so we assume that we'll have to parse the PentahoAuditLog.log file on our own.

However, I've been following what it logs with "tail -f" and it doesn't seem to log anything when I view a CDE-based dashboard. Regular login/logout events and .prpt reports are correctly logged, though.

Is there some setting that I need to change, or do CDE dashboards skip the audit log altogether?

Normalizing data from a Sales force input step.

Hello everyone.

I have a task to read items data from a Salesforce system.

The data in the SKUs_r field appears as an array object, please correct me in case I am wrong.

I need this data to be organized when retrieved from the Salesforce to be readables especially in the 'SKUs_r' field when I am inserting it into relationable database table.

An example how I would read it would be like:
product_id Name SKU_length_c SKu_item_map_price_amt_c, sku_item_height_c
EL200096 200696 2.125 19.99 5.25

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Hi All,

I am using pentaho 5.0 EE.
I wanted to show report based on user login in the Analysis report and Dashboard report.
I was able to achieve same using report designer (PRD). In PRD, i was able to locate env:username which gives who has logged-in to the system but the same or similar variable could not be found in user console (PUC). Even i could not find any documents/forums.
Is it possible to know / pass username as parameter to query in analysis and dashboard report ?

Need some help to install and access repository in DI

Hello,

I am totally new to kettle and unfortunately have a task in hand where I need to upgrade pentaho suite from 4.0 to 5.0 and make sure everything runs fine

We work with kettle jobs and ad hoc data marts. So I ran install from pdi-ee-client-5.0.1-dist.zip & spoon is working ok (though get this error from command prompt: Could not find or load main class org.pentaho.di.kitchen.Kitchen.
Next I extracted pdi-ee-server-5.0.2-dist.zip and ran install.bat to install the server. I believe my server is installed now ( though I didn't create any variables like pentaho_java_home etc)

I don't see any wizard or option to configure DI repository ( I guess it should have been created when I installed server). Do I need to configure any variables anyhow ?. What is the way to access repository ?. Also what repository can help with -

As part of our current architecture, we run kettle jobs using windows .bat file ( in which we specify db connections & other variables for the job). After we use repository concept can we store all our jobs & .bat files on one m/c and then access them from diff machines ( and also schedule them on diff m/c)


I am referring to infocenter.pentaho.com documentation ( any better ?)

Renaming headers

We're taking in a large number of CSV files from multiple publishers on a regular basis. Almost all of these files are inconsistent in some way, and therefore we've had to manually map many of them to the desired format.

We've now gathered a sufficient number of individual maps that we can, match almost all of the incoming files using a fuzzy match process (with a high score threshold to chuck out non-matches). Having made the correct matches, I now have to rename and save the csvs so that they can be input into the database, but this has got me stumped.

We've automated the mapping by scraping out the header as a whole line and matching to create a database table that stores these headers and their appropriate maps as long strings, as follows:

Headline | Mapline | Match_Score
"Col1, Col2, Col3" | "Map1, Map2, Map3" | 1.0
I had planned to cycle through each file and just do a 'replace in string' step to update the header and then save it, but then I realised that I can't dynamically set the search string in that step.

So, I've been looking at the metadata injection step, but I'm not sure how to make sure that I’m putting the right data into the right steps at the right time. I need to send three blocks of data into the metadata injector, (one for each step in the transformation that sits under the metadata injector) and I’m stumped on how to loop through each file as I use the metadata injector.

I was thinking that I might set a variable which pulls the right data from the table, but I’m not sure how to cycle that, and I’m thinking there must be a simpler way to do this. Any ideas much appreciated.

Hi,

I was trying to run Pentaho CE 5.0.1 server on my fedora 20 VM; after running
Code:
./start-pentaho.sh
, accessing localhost:8080 led to the following error message:
Pentaho Initialization Exception

The following errors were detected
One or more system listeners failed. These are set in the systemListeners.xml.
org.pentaho.platform.api.engine.PentahoSystemException: PentahoSystem.ERROR_0014 - Error while trying to execute startup sequence for org.pentaho.platform.repository2.unified.BackingRepositoryLifecycleManagerSystemListener

Please see the server console for more details on each error detected.

After trying to drill-down and examine the source of this issue unsuccessfully in a various ways, I decided to try and run Pentaho CE server on my local machine which (Windows 7), and got exactly the same error (!) ...
Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong?

Can't Access BI_CE_4.5 via localhost:8080/Pentaho in Ubuntu12.04LTS

My goal was to install & test Pentaho CE 4.5 in Ubuntu. I seem to be facing a steep learning curve, so any help would be appreciated. Here's what I've done.


1) Install Ubuntu12.04LTS in VirtualBox, choosing the following components: OpenSSH, LAMP, PostgreSQL, Tomcat JAVA Server.
2) Components installed later: mysql workbench, desktop environment without recommends -- only required elements, VirtualBox Guest Additions, Synaptic Package Manager, Firefox
3) Using THIS tutorial, I attempted to install & configure BI_CE 4.5. When finished with the instructions on that page only, I get no connection to http://localhost:8080/Pentaho


It could be that I messed up installing Java, as THIS APT-GET didn't work. Not sure if it matters, but the Tomcat JAVA Server was already installed. Also, when looking in the /usr/lib/jvm/ folder I see the following folders:


default-java
java-1.6.0-openjdk
java-1.6.0-openjdk-amd64
java-6-openjdk
java-6-openjdk-amd64
java-6-openjdk-common

What version of LGPL covers Report Designer 3.9?

Hello, everybody!

I have a question about exact version of the license with covers the use of Pentaho Report Designer 3.9.
We are currently evaluating it to use for our reporting needs. I noticed that startup splash screen wording is "...provided under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL), Version 2.1 or any later version". The product is shipped with LGPL v2.1 file.
The problem is that our company disapprove the use of LGPL v3 because of its restrictive treatment of patent rights. So I am kinda in doubt if we can use the product since it's not clear what license version is actually covering it.
I was not able to find the answer to this questions on the forum or on the web site, so I am asking it here. I would appreciate if somebody can point to the authoritative information source on the subject.

Problem with Pentaho server

Hi guys,

We are running Pentaho with repository in Oracle and datasource in Vertica. I am able to login and see all reports folders, but when I run reports it comes out empty. The error I am getting is this:

Adding K for thousand and M for million on y-axis in a bar chart

Is there anyway to add units to the end of my values on a y-axis for a bar chart?
The values that appear on the chart should look similar to below:
1000 => 1k
5821 => 5.8k
10500 => 10k
101800 => 101k
2000000 => 2m
7800000 => 7.8M
92150000 => 92M
123200000 => 123M
9999999 => 9.9M

I'm assuming that it would need a post chart processing script? Or is there a setting for this?

Is it possible to create a database using the kettle java API?

We can connect to a particular database using DatabaseMeta and Database classes.
But I need to create a new database and add tables inside that particular db. Is it possible to do it using the API?

Exception while Connect Oracle DB with WEKA

I have tried to connect Oracle DB with WEKA, But it shows Exception as No suitable driver found.

exception: java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver found for jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.0.97:1521:oracler2

I have placed the 'ojdbc14.jar' in Parent folder of WEKA.

Please help anyone to open DB with WEKA.

When i try to get child member of Date dimension via mondrian, i getting the error:
com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Incorrect syntax near '2011-01-03 00:00:00.0'.

After debug in mondrian (version 3.50 ), i found error in this query generated by mondrian engine:

Can some help me to know where do we configure "Manage Datasources". Do i need to go for a fresh install or verify system folder or Tomcat/mantle folder .

CDE - time based refresh of charts

Hi,

I'm pretty new in this area.

I have created my first dashboard using CDE (Pentaho 4.8) that contains select dropdown and 3 graphs (bar and 2 line charts). When I change value in dropdown field charts get updated.
But I would like to achieve now is to refresh all diagrams automatically(no user interaction) every 30 seconds to reflect/show new values in DB. The refresh should be seamless - so no reload of the whole dashboard (Dashboards.fireChange).
Is this possible?

Does it have to done using post-functions? How to do it in CDE?

CSV file upload message

Hi,

I get the following message when i try to upload a csv file to Pentaho BA 5.0 server:
"the compressed file uploaded contained more than one file. any compressed files must contain only one file".

The files contains approx 1.75 mil lines and is about 475Mb.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have to analyze a log file of a portal and would like to use as a tool Pentaho. The file has the extension. Log
The format of the log is to Apache and I should extract the information contained in it.
The information I want to know are:
- Content displayed more
- User agent used to make requests etc.

hi forum,
My project consist on création of dashboards to differents users, so i use for that CDE (community Dashboard Editor), but i search an outil who allows to each user to connect to a specific profile, each one of them can see, not all dashboards but a specifics ones.
I found CST (community startup tabs) isn't a good one, so if u can help me, i will be happy.
