PDI Enterprise Repo based Auto documentation

Does any one have enterprise repo based auto documentation working?

As described load_metadata_from_repository_sample.ktr in :

Dynamic Excel

Hello all. I'm new to Pentaho.

I'm working on a transformation that needs to read an Excel file as an input, take a column from it and count the rows it has.

The problem is that the Excel file and the column for the count cannot be hardcoded.
Can you guide me on what should I do to give a dynamic Excel input and a dynamic column for the count on the Group By transformation that performs the row count?

Ad Hoc Reporting Functionality for 5.2 CE BI?

First off . . . Kudos to all the BI Developers, I am very impressed with 5.2 and the Marketplace Integration! Great Job!

I noticed Saiku Ad Hoc (Now Saiku Reporting) is not yet available in the Marketplace. I personally really liked Saiku Ad Hoc cuz the UI was very intuitive and easy to get rolling on for novice users!

I just got 5.2 up and running after being on 4.8 for a while and when I noticed I could not install Saiku Reporting I installed WAQR and compared to Saiku Ad Hoc I am not impressed with the WAQR UI for it is not as intuitive plus it is no longer supported.

So I checked out CDB since I had never played with it before & had always used Saiku Ad Hoc in BI 4.x. When I went into CDB and chose "New Query" then clicked on "Set Query" it just dumped me into Saiku Analytics. I don't get it . . . ?

So is CDB not really a standalone "Data Browser" for building Reports like Saiku Ad Hoc? Is this the intended design of CDB ie: to just dump you into Saiku Analytics? What would have happened if I did not have Saiku Analytics installed?

Is there any functionality available that I can install through Marketplace in 5.2 that gives me the same functionality as Saiku Ad Hoc? Don't get me wrong I love Saiku Analytics yet I also loved Saiku Ad Hoc but they are definitely different tools!

Can Saiku Ad Hoc Plugin still be manually installed in BI 5.2 w/o messing up Marketplace in any way?

Are Ctools and Marketplace installed plugins compatible on a 5.2 BI install side by side or is it best once you run Marketplace to not use Ctools? Are there any compatibility issues with running old 4.x plugins like Saiku Ad Hoc on a 5.2 instance of BI?

Hello -

We are in the process of trying to prototype the migration of our (sometimes complex) data management process from PL/SQL to Pentaho. Are there any available online resources that explain how to deconstruct a PLSQL block(s) into separate PDI steps/transformations?

Are there best practices that anyone who has done this before can share? Ultimately, I'm looking to make our PL/SQL processes more modular, readable and manageable by breaking it down into separate components/transformations (especially for someone who may not know PL/SQL code).

Border lines doesn't touch the bottom row.

Hi!

I'm very new to PRD.

I've been doing this for days now, but I still can't figure out why the bottom border lines won't touch the next row when one of the column has 2 lines of input.

I've tried adding the text-field into band and do the borders on the band, but it still returns the same result.

Currently, I just add bottom, top and left borders to Details, and add right border for each text-field.

Pentaho CE 5.2 website HTTP Status 404 ERROR

Windows 2008 R2
Pentaho CE 5.2
JDK 7

I setup PENTAHO_JAVA_HOME , and then modified some xml files to replace the repository database to Oracle 11g , but I'm not sure that I modified them correctly .
I run start-pentaho.bat , and then tomcat launched . When I open the website http://localhost:8081/pentaho , it occurred HTTP Status 404 error .
There are 3 logs under biserver-ce/tomcat/logs .

Attached are the log files.

Could anyone help me and give me some instructions , this is the 1st time for me to use Pentaho , I'm confused .
Any hlep will be appreciated

getting started - where are the dependencies

Hi All,

I am getting started with mondrian and I am looking to just it as OLAP4J or XML/A server. I dont need the entire pentaho stack.

I downloaded mondrian-3.8.0.0-209.jar and went through the installation instructions in the documentation page. Instructions here seem to be really out of date.

As the first step, I just wanted to be able to load data into my MySQL instance. I couldnt get this to work since the dependencies are available anywhere.
I tried getting a older version (2.1.1) and copied the dependencies from there. There were just too many and I couldnt choose only those that I need. And considering the fact that these are for older version of mondrian, I am not even confident it would work reliably.

I looked around to locate the list deps that go with the 3.8.0 version but couldnt find. I checked at github, checked sf release dirs. Nowhere could I find them.

It will be great if someone could give me pointers or ideas as to how to identify the list and get going.

but dont know how to open it and how to use it? can you give some docs or hints? thank you in advance!!

CDE Dynamic Columns - Value Formatter and Table Customization

I have a CDE dashboard having a dynamic pentaho cde table component so the number of columns are not fixed.
It may contain 4 columns,3 columns,5,6,7,8 columns or may be more than this.
And,sometime first two columns are of string typea or it could be string and numeric depends upon the dynamic mdx query.
Now I have to format numeric columns' values like #####.######## into ###,### and also to add addins like 'trendarrows' on some numeric columns ,with formatted values like ###,###.

Since, the report is dynamic I cannot use the properties for the table component for Column type ,Column Format.

Can someone help me out please??

Downgrading of Kettle Jobs/Transforamtion from v5.1 to v 4.2

Hi all,

We're facing a problem where due to limitations of one our Application we need to use Kettle in v4.2, however we already developed several (more than 140 transformations) in Kettle v5.1.
Is there some quick way how to downgrade all tansformations in older version of Kettle? (Somethink like save as .kjb v4.2 ???)

Your help will be much appreciated.

Hi Team,

Can you please help on the following in Pentaho EE 5.2. Thank you:

I am trying to add a 'New DataSource' (MYSQL) in the Pentaho User Console.

Since 'MYSQL' is not there in the 'DataSource' type i am trying to connect using the 'Generic' option and getting the below error.

Can you help me solve on the attached error. Thank you.

FYI:

In 'jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/Pentaho_Test'

I have a scenario like need to get the following aggregation for a report.

I have a field like "cost" in report now i want to calculate the following aggregations.

I tried summary functions like sum,min,max it worked out but how to calculate the below values.
please help me in this scenario.

Average of Cost
Median of cost.
95 th percentile of cost

How can I use Pentaho Report Output

I wanted to generate PDF files using "Pentaho Report Output" component using Transformation.

Below are the steps I performed -

1 - Created Transformation with below steps -

Table Input --> Filter Rows (based on some condition) -->"Pentaho Report Output"

2) Created Report by report designer

Set data "Pentaho Data Integration" of Filter Rows (above) and created report and published to console.

and want to refer the published report in DI transformation but getting error on component "Pentaho Report Output". and unable to generate pdf file..

Is this can be achieved ? No related help available for the same.

unable to plot the Box Plot chart in CDE

Hi Forum,
I am trying to create the Box plot chart in pentaho cde to plot the following data set :

Product Sale
P1 100
P2 20
P3 30
P4 40
P5 200

But I am not getting box plot output as per the expectations. There, just a horizontal line depicting sales for each product is displayed instead of boxes .

can u guide me if i need to add any other property or something to it to get correct box plot or some changes to be made in the sql query.

I know this has been addressed several times and I feel like a noob trying to find it! :(

I need to execute a transformation with a parameter to be used on its Table input step ("select ... where xx=VALUE") , the transformation has to be executed for every row of a previous select step that will provide the VALUE to be used.

Just now I'm having a confusion between parameters/args and how to use them in the correct way. Can anyone send me to the correct doc? (I will copy it by hand one dozen times, promised! :D )
