PDI Step development: input from two different steps

hello everyone,

I continue to enhance the step I have written, which implements a rule engine to check data. But then of course a lot of questions come up...

some steps allow the input from two different steps. e.g. the "Append Stream" step. how does this work programatically? How can I distinguish the input rows of the two steps?
